Connecticut Financial Assistance for Single Moms

Single moms are finding it hard to save or even pay the bills they currently have.  Financial burdens can make it difficult to focus on your children and the things that matter most.  These programs and grants provide financial assistance that are specific to single mom needs.

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
Connecticut’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Program (TANF) provides assistance to needy families and pregnant women meeting eligibility criteria in political subdivisions of the state.  Assistance for basic needs is provided through the Temporary Family Assistance (TFA) component of the Job First Program.


Women, Infant and Children Program (WIC)

Food supplements, nutrition education and counseling to women who are pregnant or nursing, and to their children under age 5.   This program is for those meeting financial guidelines and nutrition needs.


Weatherization
The Energy Assistance & Weatherization Assistance Program is administered by the State of Connecticut, Department of Social Services (DSS). Funding is provided by the U.S. Department of Energy. Weatherization of homes and apartments (owner-occupied and rental) includes attic insulation, caulking, furnace and water heater repair. Eligibility is based on income.


Care 4 Kids
Care 4 Kids helps low to moderate income families in Connecticut pay for child care costs. This program is sponsored by the State of Connecticut's Department of Social Services (also called DSS).
